Desert 400

Saturday, February 27th, 2010

Surrounded by the sandy desert plains of the Kingdom of Bahrain, this track provides a number of unique challenges including managing tyre wear and on-track debris. FPR’s Mark Winterbottom has fond memories of his visit in 2007 where he won 2 of the 3 races and took a convincing round victory.

Mark Winterbottom:
“Turn 1 is a big braking corner and a great passing spot. You go all the way from sixth to first through the gear box. The tyres load up at turn 7 and 8, great when you’ve got new rubber but terrible with an old tyre.”

Steven Richards:
“Quite an unusual track surface means laps one and two see optimum performance from the Dunlop tyre. The incredibly wide circuit makes it a fantastic race track as the cars can end up in three or four wide braking duels coming into turn one at 270 kmph.”

Circuit length: 3.6km
Circuit direction: Clockwise
Average Speed: 164kph
Maximum Speed: 270kph
Fastest point: Main Straight
Slowest point: Turn 1
Lap Record: Jason Bright, 1:24.0551, Ford BA
