The inaugural Hamilton V8 Supercar Round in 2008 will be the largest annual event in New Zealand. Hamilton’s vision is to make the round the best in the series and to use this unprecedented opportunity to showcase to the world what the city is capable of. The race will take place annually for 7 years from 2008 during the local April/May school holidays. The 3.4 kilometre street race circuit borders the city’s CBD, running largely through the Frankton business district and around the city’s green belt. The first event is forecast to attract a maximum of 156,000 attendees plus approximately 5000 people associated with the running of the event. It will be a new challenge for every team which should make it an exciting event.
Mark Winterbottom
“The last part of the chicane at turn 4 has a really high edge so you can’t hit it or it will damage the car, whereas turn 3 is going into a roundabout, which is pretty unique!”
Steven Richards
“This is a character-filled circuit with bumps, high aggressive kerbing and an incredibly grippy grade of bitumen. Taking pole position in 2008 for the inaugural race was fantastic.”
