This recently built racing circuit is perhaps the least technical of all circuits visited in the series – it rewards strong mid corner speed and traction out of turns, with the 3.1km layout basically consisting of four right and two left corners with four straights – two short and two long, in between. The circuit is very spectator friendly, with full circuit viewing easy from virtually any location on the track. Taking on a sprint racing format this year instead of an endurance format should make the racing much closer and more exciting.
Mark Winterbottom:
“Turn 3 should be an easy corner but there’s a bump 160m out, which unsettles the car and makes it really hard to pull up. Following this is the first left turn for about 55 seconds so the car’s got a massive imbalance and doesn’t want to turn.”
Steven Richards:
“Four big 200kph stops make for massive brake temps at one of the hardest circuits on the calendar for brakes. The event always throws up two things: great racing with lots of opportunity to pass and big crowds.”
