Recent extension work to the regional Victorian Winton Raceway has made it an exciting venue for V8 Supercar racing. Featuring three fast straights blended with a quick chicane and some tight corners, Winton is a highly technical circuit that gives V8 Supercar team engineers and drivers a lot more to think about than what meets the eye. The tight 3km layout allows excellent viewing from most parts of the circuit, while a new pit area has made it a far more user friendly circuit in recent years.
Mark Winterbottom:
“You know the track’s in good condition when the car turns in well at turn 4; even if you can turn in at all the others, this one can still throw up problems. Turn 7 is another to watch – there’s a few different lines you can take through there but they all give you the same result.”
Steven Richards:
“Tight and twisty, Winton is the only circuit on the V8 Supercar calendar where we do not use 6th gear and the speed at the end of the pit straight only just gets to 240 kmph.”
