Western Australia’s only permanent motor racing venue was built in 1969. The layout, besides safety enhancements, has remained virtually unchanged. Barbagallo Raceway, located near the town of Wanneroo, is an excellent racing circuit that has a bit of everything, from fast straights, to tight turns and long radius corners. At only 2.4km in length, it is deceptively difficult to get absolutely right and in past years has caught some of the best drivers in its sand traps. As the only major motor racing event in Perth, huge crowd numbers support the event and it is usually stages great races, reaching top speeds of 250kph.

Mark Winterbottom
“Ford Fast Brake Corner, turn 7, is the only corner in Australia that you brake going uphill. There’s over 1,000PSI brake pressure. You hit the brake as hard as you can but it still doesn’t feel like it’s going to stop.”

Steven Richards
“Conditions change lap on lap mainly due to beached cars depositing sand onto the circuit on re-entry. It is the only circuit where after the start, we only use 4 gears, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th.”

Circuit length: 2.42km
Circuit direction: Clockwise
Average Speed: 160kph
Maximum Speed: 252kph

Lap Record: Jason Bright, 0:55.9440, Holden VY
