Victoria’s Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit was Ford Performance Racing’s nominated test circuit in 2003 and 2005. The Venue of FPR’s first round victory in 2003, Phillip Island combines fast straights with double apex, radial and hairpin turns, providing a challenging combination of both. The seaside circuit now features a new pit lane exit that extends much further into the main straight which creates a new high speed exit point closer to turn one. For spectators, few circuits in Australia offer the excellent vantage points for high speed race viewing than this one. There are several publicly accessible areas that offer brilliant views of the on track action.
Mark Winterbottom:
“Wind direction plays a big part here; you get under-steer in and over-steer out or vice versa depending on which way it’s blowing. Turn 4 is a good passing corner and the biggest brake on the track, which gives you a chance to make up time.”
Steven Richards:
“One of the truly great circuits anywhere in the world; this is what driving a V8 Supercar is all about. This circuit is extremely punishing on the right hand rear Dunlop as the corners are incredibly long and fast.”
