Located 30 kilometres south of Launceston, the fast 2.41 kilometre Symmons Plains Raceway makes a welcome return to the V8 Supercar Championship this season after an absence of four years. This event also makes our series truly national, extending the reach of this nation’s most popular motor racing category to every state. The circuit’s main features include a banked hairpin corner and a long back straight that should see the FPR Falcons reach top speeds of close to 300kph. Certain to be an exciting round as the V8 Supercar class of 2004 heads to this Tasmanian circuit without any relevant prior data. As the second last round of the Championship, this event may be pivotal to deciding the series Champion and will be an exciting one to watch. As the name of the circuit states, it offers good spectator viewing as it is fairly flat.
Mark Winterbottom:
“Turn 4 is the tightest corner in the series; it cambers in so you get a bit of help from the nature of the track. You’re also sure to flat spot at least one set of tyres going through the first turn.”
Steven Richards:
“Everything at Symmons Plains raceway happens very quickly, but while it may look quite simple the circuit has some quite unique features including a first gear hairpin, a long loading 4th gear left-hander and a tricky little chicane over a crest.”
