Sandown International Raceway is one of Melbourne’s premier motor racing facilities. Located 25 kilometres south east of the CBD, the 3.1 kilometre circuit has hosted some incredible races over the past three decades. The return of the 500 kilometre enduro format to this race last year was welcomed by all teams as the traditional endurance race warm-up before Bathurst. This is a fast and flowing circuit with some tight hairpin corners. It can be treacherous in the wet (or the hail) and very exciting in the dry. Good Spectator viewing areas are abundant all around the circuit.
Mark Winterbottom:
“The challenge begins at the opening corner; by the middle you often haven’t slowed the car enough and by then it’s too late. Turn 6 is over a crest; you turn in and use all the ripple strip on the inside. It’s a bit of a thrill.”
Steven Richards:
“A good engine and good suspension damping are the keys for success at Sandown. While both straights give speeds in excess of 255kph, ability to attack the kerbs is key to getting the win.”
