ICONIC ACTS SET FOR SYDNEY TELSTRA 500

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

This year’s Sydney Telstra 500 looks set to be the biggest yet with a stellar line-up of iconic Australian bands announced for the V8 Supercar season finale at a function held earlier today at Circular Quay, Sydney.

Ford Performance Racing’s Will Davison was on hand to hear the likes of John Farnham, Hunters and Collectors and Noiseworks announced as the headline acts for one amazing night of Australian music on Saturday, 3 December at the Homebush street circuit.

Davison said the event gets bigger every year and the unique ‘Rock n’ Race format will appeal to fans of all ages, whether new to the sport or long-time followers.

“Today’s launch shows just how big the Sydney Telstra 500 has become in just a few short years,” Davison said.

“To have an iconic Australian band like Hunters and Collectors reform for this event is huge, and to see them on stage with John Farnham and Noiseworks will be amazing.

“There is also Bliss N Eso and Jebediah the night before so there is something for everyone.

“The track is challenging and there is nowhere better to finish the season. It will be my first time at Telstra’s event in the #6 Trading Post FPR Falcon so I am really looking forward to rounding out my first season with the Trading Post team at such a great race.”

Telstra general manager, sponsorship and reputation, Richard Howarth believes the event combines the two great loves of race fans.

“The after-race concerts bring together two of the passions we share with race fans – V8 Supercars and Aussie music legends. Fans can get revved up by reliving all the hits on BigPond Music,” Mr Howarth said.

The Sydney Telstra 500 has hosted more than 350,000 V8 Supercar fans since it first started in 2009.

This year’s race is schedule for 2-4 December and will be the 14th and final event on the 2011 V8 Supercar calendar.

Tickets to the Sydney Telstra 500 go on sale at 9am via www.ticketek.com.au on Friday, 26 August.
